Rush To Fatalism
By Daryl L. Hunter - 2000
The fleeting phenomena of support for John
McCain had a recurring theme, the need to reduce or eliminate
the National
Debt and pork barrel spending. John McCain has recently committed
character suicide thereby to our relief, ruining his chances for
the Presidency. However, there remain a great many Republicans that
are still concerned about the National Debt and pork barrel spending.
The Republican leadership should do something about this fuel lying
around that insurgent third party politicians and Republicans that
have lost their compass keep gathering up and using against us.
Advocating, taking our tax cuts, as that is all we can
realistically hope for. Rush's dismissing the need to pursue this issue
that consumes 36% of our Gross Domestic Product (36% of our tax dollars),
trumping the future possibility of a 36% reduction of budgetary needs
seems fatalistic and un-characteristically pessimistic of Rush.
I agree that today all money that shows up in Washington gets spent,
squandered or stolen. However, as an optimist I believe that there
is a solution to this problem. I can only assume Rush has taken this
course because of Conservatisim's Dogma pertaining to tax cuts as being
conservative and everything else is not. I, being dogmatic about nothing,
believe that Conservatism is
a conservative thought process not an established categorical check
list. Every four years there will be an opportunistic visionary or
flake that will run for President on the issue of National Debt reduction,
and their message will again have disruptive appeal. Although we don't
have the will to address and fix this problem in a pragmatic way, it
will continue to be a burr under our saddle threatening Republican
political well being as long as this issue exists. Lets just address
it, fix it, then be done with it.
I will enjoy the tax cut I receive during the future Bush administration,
however my enjoyment will be tempered by our fatalistic vision of a
future of idiotic, unending, exponential growth of our National Debt.
The wasted tax dollars our progeny will spend servicing our selfishness,
due to our unwillingness
to legislate honest on budget and off budget National Debt reduction
and elimination will be our legacy as well as our national shame. This
however will bother us none as we will be as dead as our founding fathers.
Our legacy may be the one that ends the legacy of our Founding Fathers.
