Thomas Lafayette Jurney Sr who was born March 23, 1833 in Union Grove, North Carolina and died December 18, 1909 in Union Grove, North Carolina.  Have no information on his mother but he remarried.

             Born:  January 24, 1847 in Jonesville, North Carolina. Although born in Jonesville, his father was born and died in Union Grove, North Carolina and is likely where Jr. lived and grew up also.  He died:   March 7, 1932 in Uvalde, Texas
 
Thomas Jr. married to Miss Ella Goodman in May 1875 in Texas and to this union was born two girls.Sarah Alice Jurney and Florence Jurney

Survivors at time of death were:  Mrs Sarah Alice Floyd, Tom, Grover, Roy, Hill, and Harvey Jurney.  34 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
 
He was a Blacksmith and Wheelwright by trade.  He and Ellen Goodman had Sarah Alice Jurney and Florence Jurney who were born in Texas about 1878.  The other children he had with Rebecca.
 
Folk lore had it that Tom left North Carolina at 10 years old for LA then to TX. The stroy went that Tom's Father was well to do and died when Tom was young. He feared that his uncle, the executor of his brothers will was going to kill him, so he fled west, at which time he changed the spelling of his name from Journey to Jurney. Apparently we have since found out that his father Thomas Lafayette Jurney Sr. died in 1909 revealing Tom to be another teller of tall tales of this tall tale telling family.

The Jurneys (Journey's) are French and it is said that some served in Charlemaine's court.
