Nora died in 2003 A Giant among us is gone (Obituary) My Grandmother, Nora Saunders has bean a beacon of light, good nature, humor, and the finest example of huminity. She has been a fine example for us all. In 1959 my mom, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and I moved in with Nora and Leo and they gladly made room for us, a lot of room, they bought themselves a seperate house. Although a bunch of us kids proceded to create problems for ourselves I am sure things would have been mush worse had Nora and Leo not provided a home for us in a decent neighborhood. This home continues to provide a safty net for members of our family Recently grandmother amazed me repeatedly when she couldn't remember for instance a breakfast we may have just finished together but she always could remember where a one liner could be interjected into a sentence in order to keep us laughing. Recently Gene was relating a story of how Nora was entertaining Gene, Kenny and the nurses in the hospital and I felt compeled to remark to Gene "whats the big idea grandmother hogging all the optimism and good nature in our family. If Beautiful old people are a work of art. never was it more true than with my grandmother Nora Bell Saunders. Nora was born in Corona New Mexico 4-27-1909. She moved to Douglas Arizona at 6 years old in an open wagon with her family. During the trip the family got whopping cough. The only fuel for their cooking fires were cow chips and they were happy to have them, although not thrilled with the job of gathering them up. Her Father bought another ranch in Bisbee Arizona and that is where Nora grew up. At 19 Nora married Leo Saunders an electrician at the copper smelter. They later moved to Taft California and then to San Luis Obispo CA where they settled for good. Nora was a supurb artist. She took up oil painting when she was about fifty and later swiched to water color. At 65 Nora decided that at her age it was time to get into shape.
