Bicycle Touring Company Awarded for its Breast Cancer Fund Raising

WomanTours will receive the prestigious Community Fund Raising Award from the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) next week. The award will be presented to the women-only bicycle touring company at the NBCC’s annual conference in Washington, DC on Sunday, May 15, 2005. The award recognizes WomenTours for its annual cross country bike tour that has raised more than $200,000 for the fight against breast cancer. The NBCC is the nation’s largest breast cancer advocacy group committed to ending the disease. The organization expects to have 700 people from around the world attend the conference.

Founder Gloria Smith of Driggs, ID and Rio Rico, AZ and President Jackie Marchand of Rochester, NY will attend the conference to accept the award. A breast cancer survivor, Smith explains, “I wanted to do something to help other women with this frightening disease. The physical challenge of the cross country ride promotes physical and emotional well-being in a supportive environment for women. Meanwhile it raises money for a higher purpose.”
